Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.

Fort Lauderdale is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Fort Lauderdale is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after my experience, I feel it’s important to share it. I initially saw Dr. Alvarez because my implant crown had become loose. I paid over $250 on two separate occasions to have it recemented. When it came loose a third time, I was told the cement-retained crown system was outdated and that I needed a new screw-retained crown. During multiple visits, I was also encouraged to purchase a night guard because I was told I might be grinding my teeth, despite sharing that I had undergone a sleep study that did not indicate grinding. I agreed to proceed with the new crown and paid approximately $1,200. Two days later, I received a call informing me that the implant lab charged an additional $500, which I would also be responsible for paying. This additional fee was never discussed before treatment, and I felt I had little choice at that point since my crown had already been removed. Unfortunately, the new crown lasted less than two years. After moving farther north, another dentist found that the crown was loose and suspected the abutment had fractured. I returned to Smile Design, driving about 45 minutes, hoping the issue would be addressed. After

I recently visited Smile Design Dental in Ft. Lauderdale for a hygiene appointment after an absence of several years, and I am so impressed by the exceptional service. From the moment I walked in, the team made me feel at ease. The front desk handled the registration and paperwork so efficiently that I was taken back for my appointment almost immediately—no long waiting at all. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional throughout the entire visit. It’s rare to find a dental office that combines such a warm atmosphere with such a swift and organized check-in process. If you’ve been putting off a visit, I highly recommend seeing the team here. They truly take the stress out of dental care. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend!

I normally don’t write reviews, and it took me a long time to decide to post this because I wondered if maybe my experience was just a one-off. First, I want to say I have nothing bad to say about the staff. Everyone is very nice, the building is clean, and the team is knowledgeable and kind. My dissatisfaction comes from my dental treatment. I went in as a new patient and received X-rays and a cleaning (which are routine and covered by my insurance). I was told I had four cavities. I have good dental hygiene and have only had one cavity in my life, so I was shocked. The dentist showed me the X-rays. I’m not a dentist, so I wasn’t going to disagree with her. I followed her recommendation and paid over $600 (with insurance) to have the cavities filled. I went in before Christmas to have them done. The procedure itself seemed to go fine, but afterward, the soreness never wore off. I had significant pain where one of the cavities was filled. It was sensitive to hot and cold, hurt constantly, and I couldn’t eat on that side of my mouth. I called back and was scheduled quickly (which I appreciated). They took another X-ray and said the cavity did not appear to have been filled properly,

After switching dentists due to five years of dissatisfaction, I was recommended this location in Fort Lauderdale and I haven't looked back! The entire staff is always friendly and incredibly accommodating, but I have to give a special shout-out to my dental hygienist, Shauna. She's exceptional, always greets me with a smile and does a fantastic job cleaning my teeth. I love that the office is never overcrowded, and they always see you at your scheduled appointment time, with no waiting. This is definitely the place to go for all your dental needs! I'm beyond happy and satisfied to have finally found a dental office that truly works for me.
